Dear Prairie View made its world premiere at Houston’s Wortham Theater Center last night, taking audiences on a powerful journey through the history, culture and spirit of The Hill.

From the Alta Vista Eight to generations of Panthers who followed, the production celebrated the resilience, creativity, activism, traditions and people that have shaped Prairie View A&M University for 150 years - told through music, dance, spoken word and visual storytelling.

Featuring an incredible collection of PVAMU-affiliated artists and creatives, including our own Classic Dance Ensemble, Dear Prairie View was more than a performance. It was our story. A beautiful celebration of where we’ve been, who we are and the legacy we continue to build.

Thank you Harrison Homer-Guy for this beautiful tribute.

Award-winning poet Nikky Finney is PVAMU’s 2026-2027 Toni Morrison Writer-in-Residence! 📚✍🏾

The 2011 National Book Award winner joins PVAMU during its 150th anniversary year, bringing her powerful voice, decades of experience and passion for mentorship to the next generation of writers, poets, storytellers and narrators.

As Finney put it, this residency is “the honor of a lifetime.”

A celebrated voice in American poetry is joining The Hill. ✍🏾📚

Award-winning poet Nikky Finney has been named Prairie View A&M University’s 2026-2027 Toni Morrison Writer-in-Residence.

The 2011 National Book Award winner will bring decades of experience as a writer, educator and mentor to PVAMU students as the University celebrates its 150th anniversary.

Finney’s residency continues the legacy of the Toni Morrison Writing Program and its commitment to inspiring the next generation of writers, poets, storytellers and narrators.
