Yavapai College’s Unmanned Aerial Systems program has been selected for the FAA’s Unmanned Aircraft Systems-Collegiate Training Initiative.

The college’s program provides industry-aligned drone curriculum and hands-on experience that prepare students for careers in unmanned aviation.

College officials said, “This recognition reflects the dedication, expertise, and innovation of our UAS faculty and staff, as well as the commitment of our students who are preparing to enter one of aviation’s most rapidly evolving fields.”

Yavapai College fortified its technical resources, and simplified student pilot training with the acquisition of an FAA-approved AATD G1000 flight simulator for its Aviation Program.

“The new Precision Flight Controls AATD simulator provides students with an affordable and practical way to gain valuable flight training experience.” Aviation Instructor Seohee Park explained. “Depending on the certificate or rating being pursued, approved simulator time may be credited toward FAA aeronautical experience requirements. This gives students the opportunity to reduce some of the cost associated with aircraft training while continuing to build important skills and proficiency.”

Congrats to our Aviation MICTED (high school) student of the year. Rocco has been one of our best high school students by excelling in both UAS and ATC. Best of luck in your future endeavors!

"Rocco has by far been one of the best students to go through the MICTED aviation program. Mr. Smith excels in all of his courses by submitting all of his work on time and passing with all A’s. Not only that, but Rocco is also an extremely helpful classmate. He is always willing to help his peers when needed and even the instructor without a gripe. Another great thing Rocco does is bring a lot of energy to the class and always wears a great smile. He seems to always find a way to cheer me up with his positive attitude and great sense of humor. When it comes to his technical skills, I was most impressed by how quickly he learned to assemble drones in our build classes. Rocco managed to build one of his own drones from scratch, learn to fly it, and then rebuild it an additional 6 times. Lastly, I would like to mention that he is doing all of this while completing the early college program through BMHS/YC and will have an associate's degree by the end of this year. It’s been an absolute pleasure and privilege to teach this young man for the past two years. Best of luck, Rocco, and keep in touch!"
