University of Maine at Presque Isle For more than a century, the University of Maine at Presque Isle has been helping students find their path to great professional careers.

UMPI is an institution of opportunity where every student has the ability to thrive and succeed. The University specializes in personalized, hands-on learning and providing access to real-world career experience. A low student-to-teacher ratio and class sizes of 30 students or less, even in introductory-level courses, ensures lots of one-on-one interaction for each student. An invested, highly-motivated team of faculty and staff adds to the family-like atmosphere on campus. Located in pristine northern Maine just 15 minutes from the Canadian border, UMPI affords easy access to outdoor adventure, from hiking and mountain biking in the spring and fall, to skiing and snowmobiling in the winter. Historic Presque Isle offers the safety and security of a small town with walkable access to restaurants, the Braden movie theater, convenience shopping, and recreational pursuits. While high tuition rates have put many colleges and universities out of reach for an increasing number of our youth, UMPI remains committed to providing a high-quality education at an affordable cost. UMPI currently offers the most competitively-priced college education in the Northeast, with the average student debt upon graduating amounting to just $18,000. UMPI is one of the seven universities within the University of Maine System.

Homecoming 2026 was owl-mazing! 💙💛

Thanks to everyone who joined us in painting the town Blue & Gold! It was wonderful to welcome our alumni, families, and friends back to campus for a weekend of celebrations, reunions, and Owl pride.

A special thank you to the UMPI Alumni Association for organizing the festivities and to everyone who helped make this year's Homecoming possible.

We loved seeing you all, and can't wait to do it again in 2027!

The Purple Pinkie Project returns to UMPI on Oct. 21! 💜

In partnership with the Presque Isle Rotary Club, UMPI's Student Nursing Organization will be hosting the Purple Pinkie Project ahead of World Polio Day on Oct. 24.

A purple pinkie symbolizes one life saved from polio. Here's how you can participate:

📍Wednesday, Oct. 21, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Owl's Nest, with a drive-thru option at the Campus Center's circular driveway.

Donations will support Rotary International's polio eradication efforts, with just $1 more than covering the cost of a polio vaccine for one child.

Today, we recognize Indigenous Peoples’ Day, a time to honor the cultures, heritage, histories, and contributions of Indigenous peoples, while acknowledging the challenges Indigenous communities have faced and continue to face.

At UMPI, we recognize that our campus is located on the homelands of the Mi’kmaq and Maliseet nations, who are connected to the Passamaquoddy and Penobscot through kinship, alliances, and diplomacy. It is with great gratitude and humility that we share this land with those who have lived and worked on it from time immemorial.

In observance of Indigenous Peoples’ Day, UMPI will be closed on Monday, Oct. 12.
