When an electric motor fails, the real story started long before the shutdown. Smith Services™ can provide a variety of preventative measures and systems to help extend the lifespan of your critical rotating equipment. One of the most common and cost-effective preventative maintenance measures you can take is current signature analysis (CSA).
CSA focuses on the electric motor’s current waveforms, to detect any out of the ordinary conditions. These measurable changes can help detect:
- Broken rotor bars
- Static or Dynamic Eccentricity
- Load issues
- Mechanical and electrical failure signals
This method of failure detection is effective but only tells a portion of the state of your motor. The parameter being tested is the current which only shows you downstream information. CSA testing is a regularly used diagnostic service that should be completed on a regular basis and can help identify any potential catastrophic failures. Check back next month to learn more of the full story, where we’ll discuss electric signature analysis (ESA) and how it can work with CSA to reveal more about the health of your equipment.
