Meet Katie Weeks, Administrative Coordinator for Chemistry and Biochemistry / Engineering and Physics. 📚
For our READ campaign, Katie chose Fingersmith by Sarah Waters, a gothic historical novel full of twists, secrets, deception, and unexpected turns. Set in Victorian England, the story follows a young woman drawn into a complicated plot of con artists, identity, and betrayal.

Meet Dr. Jessica Blum-Sorensen, Assistant Professor of Classics. 📚 Providence College Department of History and Classics
For our READ campaign, Dr. Blum-Sorensen chose Circe by Madeline Miller. She shared that Miller’s retelling of this iconic classical character is a beautiful example of how mythological traditions never stop evolving.

Father Kenneth Gumbert, O.P. published "Bartolomé: Las Casas in the New World" July 16, 2025. A Professor of Film Studies in the Theatre, Dance & Film Department at PC, Father Gumbert's novel "presents a world filled with characters, both European and Indigenous, whose lives are inevitably enmeshed with one another, resulting from the New World exploration (and exploitation). Both tragic and hopeful, it gives us an insight into how life was lived in the 16th century, with the gradual establishment of Colonies in Hispaniola and elsewhere." (John Adams, Amazon review)

Meet Andria Tieman Michney, Research Education Librarian. 📚
For our READ campaign, Andria chose The Three Musketeers by Alexandre Dumas. She shared that while some people think of it as fussy literature, she sees it as one of the funniest books ever written, with a delightfully thin plot that leaves plenty of room for the characters’ quirks and eccentricities to shine.

READ with Jacob Olsen 📖
Jacob, Assistant Director of College Events & Conference Services, chose Red, White, and Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston for our READ campaign. He shared that the book was one of the first love stories in which he truly felt seen and represented, and that its joyful ending made it a favorite.
