Prayer. Service. Community. 🌍💙

In May, a group of Providence College School of Nursing and Health Sciences students traveled with faculty members and Sister Mary Cecilia Goodrum, O.P., to Lourdes, France, and historic Dominican sites connected to the life and mission of Saint Dominic.

Over five days of service in Lourdes, students accompanied pilgrims from around the world while reflecting on what it means to care for the whole person — body, mind, and spirit. Through prayer, study, community, and service, the Dominican pillars came alive beyond the classroom, helping students grow as future nurses and compassionate leaders.

At Providence College, learning doesn't stop at the classroom door. It continues through experiences that challenge students to serve others, deepen their understanding of the world, and discover what it means to lead with compassion.

Kara B. Cebulko, Ph.D., professor of sociology and global studies, joined community leaders, clergy, educators, and advocates at Continuing the Conversation: Convening on Immigration and Migration, speaking on the topic of borders and human rights.

The event, hosted by Most Rev. Bruce A. Lewandowski, C.Ss.R., bishop of the Diocese of Providence, brought together more than 100 members of the greater Providence community for a thoughtful conversation on immigration, migration, and the shared responsibility to uphold human dignity and the common good.

Research doesn't just stay in the classroom at PC!

This year, Friars presented their work at conferences across the country and around the world, sharing research on topics ranging from neuroscience, microbiology, chemistry, and environmental biology to political science, dance, art history, literature, and more.

Through close mentorship from faculty and hands-on opportunities to explore their interests, students showcased original scholarship in cities including Atlanta, Chicago, Washington, D.C., Portland, Prague, Pittsburgh, Baltimore, and beyond.

The classroom looked a little different in May! 🇮🇹 🍝 📕

Through Providence College's Maymester program, students take immersive courses that extend beyond the classroom and into the world. This spring, students in Ambition and Beauty in the Eternal City, a Humanities course, studied Rome's history, politics, art, and architecture both on campus and in Italy, bringing their coursework to life through time in Rome and day trips to cities like Orvieto and Pompeii.

📍 Fatima, Portugal, and beyond!

In May, students and staff from Providence College Campus Ministry traveled from Fatima, Portugal, to Santiago de Compostela, Spain, to learn about the message Mary gave when she appeared to three shepherd children in 1917.

Highlights of the pilgrimage included Mass in the place where Mary appeared, climbing castle walls, and seeing the statue sculpted by Rev. Thomas McGlynn, O.P., who once taught art at Providence College.

At their First Day in Friartown, these seniors wrote down what they were seeking at Providence College.

Four years later, they got their cards back and discovered just how much they had found along the way.

Starting Monday, the Class of 2030 will arrive on campus and fill out their own cards. We can't wait to see where their journeys take them. 🖤🤍

Seven Providence College faculty members attended the Wakonse Conference on Inspiring College Teaching, at Camp Miniwanca on Lake Michigan, where they explored new ideas and strategies to bring back to their classrooms.

Joining them for the first time were Honors students Natalia Fila ’27, Clara Arcand ’28, Patrick Morreale ’28, and Clare Coleman ’29, who attended the concurrent Wakonse Undergraduate Leadership Conference.

While faculty honed their teaching skills and students strengthened their leadership abilities, the entire group proudly represented PC — and even taught fellow attendees how to speak Rhode Islander.

When chemistry major Leart Jahaj ’27 arrived at Providence College, he knew he wanted to study science and make a difference. Today, he is one of just 454 students nationwide to receive a Goldwater Scholarship, the nation's most prestigious undergraduate award for students pursuing careers in the sciences, mathematics, and engineering.

Working alongside faculty mentor Adelaide Clark, Ph.D., Jahaj conducts environmental research that examines pollutants in the air we breathe. A member of the Honors Program and Phi Beta Kappa, he has co-authored published research, earned a NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration research internship, and embraced the liberal arts education that challenges him both inside and outside the lab.
