Brown University students are truly amazing! Today, we're honored to be celebrating the Graduating Class of 2026. Their research have taken us from the interior of the Earth, to the oceans and atmosphere, to the outer extreames of planets and space.

To all of our graduating students, we're proud of the hard work you've accomplished throughout your time here and we are excited to see where you go next.

Visiting campus for Brown's Commencement Weekend? Check out our new Campus Geology Field Guide!

This walking-tour style guide was created by DEEPS graduate students Hannah Shabtian and Emily Fischer and their Pre-College class as a resource for exploring campus through a geological lens.

“If you have never really thought about rocks before, you can use this guide to learn a bit of campus history, the basic rock types, and discover where to find them on campus.” says Hannah. “Ultimately, the goal is to have fun, explore campus through a new perspective, and learn a little bit more about the world around us.”

OR grab a printed Guide from the Brown Visitors Center, or during our DEEPS Open House, May 22nd.

We're getting ready to open our next art show, featuring the work of Ian Haut '26, graduating this May with an AB in Earth, Climate, and Biology and BFA in Illustration. His upcoming show FOLIATION features three tufted-rug tapestries inspired by remote sensing satellite images of Earth and planetary features.

“I chose this subject matter initially because I was profoundly inspired by the data I was working with for Dr. Daubar. … By turning satellite images– something so high-tech and often communicated in purely digital, quantitative styles –into something you could feel, I could share a new way for people to experience it.”

Enjoy this sneak-peak of Ian's process creating these tapestries, and learn more about the upcoming show on our website: https://deeps.brown.edu/news/2026-05-12/foliation
