The Unity Center promotes opportunities for exploring human dignity, social identity, & cultural equity. The Center plans & develops multicultural programming and fosters collaborative programming among its student affiliations, faculty & the local community. It is committed to challenging apathy, stereotypes, and forms of oppression such as racism, sexism, LGBTQ+ & gender discrimination. The Cent

er strives to preserve, bolster & enrich students' cultural, social, & ethnic identity and promotes global awareness by responding to current events while preparing others to be productive citizens of the world. We provide student support services, a resource/study room, as well as community service, service learning & work study opportunities. The Center also serves as student lounge where students can engage each other in meaningful dialogue about what is being taught in the classroom, social & personal experiences.

Thank you to everyone who attended our Trans Day of Remembrance Memorial and especially to those who shared their stories! Thank you for being in community with us as we took a moment of silence to honor the deceased, and for appreciating the exhibition we held for Trans Awareness Week. We were proud and grateful to feature RIC students, alumni, and community members from a wide range of ages - our youngest artist to submit was 13 years old; thank you for sharing your work! Now more than ever, it is critical to show trans youth they are loved and supported.

The Rhode Island College Art Club has partnered with the Unity Center here on campus to exhibit a selection of works by transgender artists and allies to the trans community promoting remembrance, resilience, community, and the acceptance of all people.

Work will be displayed on campus in the Alex and Ani Hall first floor lobby from November 13th to November 19th for Trans Awareness Week. On Monday, November 20th, Trans Day of Remembrance, the Unity Center will host a Memorial Service, honoring transgender people who have lost their lives to transphobia. Artwork will be moved to the quad on for the Unity Center Memorial Service, unless the weather prohibits such.

The Unity Center with the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion hosted our 2023 Latinx Summit at Rhode Island College.

Thank you to Jennifer Gaviria, MSW, LICSW, Pablo Rodriguez, MD, Tommy Ender, Ph.D. for such a great panel on health and mental health access. Thank you to Sabina Matos for giving such a great welcome and reminder to our students, "If you need help, ask for it." Thank you to Brandon Contreras for such a great Bachata Lesson. Thank you to Marta V. MartĂ­nez for your presentation on RI Latinx Oral History. Thank you to Marcela Betancur, David Morales, and Jonathan De Jesus for speaking about the political issues affecting Latinos. Lastly, thank you to AGONZA for the beautiful piece we now get to put in our space!

The Unity Center closed off our beautiful Summit with a LIVE Free Comedy Show in Spanish. We had 104 people attend from the Rhode Island College and Rhode Island Community! We had people representing the Dominican Republic, Colombia, El Salvador, Mexico, Spain, Peru, Guatemala and many more! Thank you to Saulo Garcia Comediante stand up for providing laughs and warm sentiments on a cold rainy Saturday evening.
