Calling all BYU engineers 🛠️ Giving Cougsday is here!

Whether they’re surveying fields, building rovers, or working on job sites, our students are shaping the future, and student aid can help make it possible. Right now, our five departments are competing for $30,000 in that aid, and the top three are decided by how many people give, not how much. Any amount counts!

Just taking a quick look back at Chip Camp 2026! 🚀

Students got hands-on experience with real engineering:
- Building and launching rockets
- Building an integrated circuit
- Programming an Arduino vehicle
- Designing a flying disk
- And more!

Chip Camp gives students the chance to do what scientists and engineers do every day, not just hear about it.

Rachel Lattin, a Construction Management major from Logan, Utah, has been looking forward to attending BYU since she was little, eating ice cream at the creamery.

Through challenges of adjusting to college life and picking her major, she has found joy in the growth she’s experienced as she prepares to design buildings after graduation.

“From my time at BYU, I recognize that God is in everything,” Rachel says. “He’s in the science. He’s in the art. He’s everywhere. I think that in being a reflection of that light, you approach your professional life differently.”

Now that the semester is underway, let’s hear a bit more advice/encouragement from Jack, a current mechanical engineering student!

“Incoming freshman! Don’t get discouraged! In your first few semesters as an engineering student, you will undoubtedly have a bad test or a rough class and in that moment, it’s very easy to tell yourself or justify that you can’t be an engineer. Don’t fall for it!

I am a firm believer that anyone can be an engineer! If you choose to stick with it, you will meet lifelong friends, fantastic professors and mentors, and you could even build a race car (join BYU Racing!). Welcome to BYU!”

Ignition! BYU Rocketry’s Propulsion Research Team recently achieved over 500 pounds of sustained thrust on their Block 2 Hybrid Rocket engine.

A huge milestone, this engine is now undergoing verification to power BYU’s student-built hybrid rocket, Genesis.

If you are interested in BYU Rocketry, join their slack at the link in our bio.

During the fall semester, new members will have a chance to build their own rocket under the guidance of senior members in the Student Launch Competition. Those interested can also join their advanced launch competition, high power competition, and research teams.
