🐑 ♥ Hundreds of families, sheep lovers, and curious community members joined us Saturday for Sheep, Lamb, Wool, and Ewe! A Festival on Farm Road — a truly FREE community event celebrating all things sheep in collaboration with the University of Idaho Sheep Center.

From shearing and herding demonstrations by Lacy Mountain Stock Dogs to fiber arts with the Palouse Hills Weavers Guild , there was something for everyone. Visitors explored wool spinning, met lambs, toured the lambing barns, learned about sheep health and agriculture, and enjoyed live music from the Palouse Folklore Society.

A huge thank-you to everyone who demonstrated their craft, shared their knowledge, prepared food, provided entertainment, volunteered, and came out to celebrate with us.

🐶 ♥ A puppy saved from a hoarding situation has overcome a life-threatening heart defect and found a forever home with the Washington State University veterinarian who first stepped in as his medical foster.

The young poodle mix, initially named Pepe but now known as Teedee, was among 38 dogs and puppies rescued this summer from a hoarding case in Benewah County, Idaho, by the Idaho Animal Rescue Network. During an initial examination by WSU veterinarians assisting with the case, clinicians detected a significant heart murmur that led to the diagnosis of patent ductus arteriosus, or PDA, a congenital heart defect that can be fatal if left untreated.

Unlike many of her classmates, Maitlyn Linton didn’t grow up dreaming of becoming a veterinarian.

It wasn’t until she began working at a veterinary clinic about two years before applying to Washington State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine that she fell in love with the profession.

Initially drawn in by the science behind disease and treatment, Linton found herself captivated by veterinary medicine’s endless opportunities to learn. But it was the relationships with clients that ultimately confirmed she had found the right career.

“I realized that I love sharing this knowledge with pet owners as well,” she said. “There’s something about creating a mutual understanding between you and an owner that effortlessly develops lasting relationships with them and their pets.”

Washington State University researcher Santanu Bose has been awarded a $3.04 million grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) for research that could lead to new treatment options for human respiratory syncytial virus, commonly known as , and other respiratory viral infections.

RSV is a leading cause of respiratory illness worldwide, particularly among infants, young children and people with weakened immune systems. It can cause pneumonia and bronchiolitis, and infections early in life have been linked to an increased risk of developing chronic respiratory conditions such as asthma.

WSU researcher Santanu Bose is investigating why the immune response to RSV can damage the lungs, with the goal of finding treatments for RSV and other viral infections.

🧬 Hannah Fabacher’s curiosity about genetics began with a simple question: how could she have brown eyes when her father has blue eyes and her mother has green eyes? The answer introduced her to the world of inheritance and sparked a fascination with understanding how living things work.

Today, the Snohomish, Washington, native is pursuing a degree in genetics and cell biology with a minor in microbiology in WSU’s College of Veterinary Medicine and expects to graduate in December 2026. Along the way, she has gained hands-on research experience, discovered an unexpected interest in plant science, and found mentors who have helped shape her college experience.
