Washington State University Alumni Association The official page for the Washington State University Alumni Association (WSUAA). This is difficult but essential work. The ultimate goal?

The WSUAA is committed to creating a Cougar community where everyone feels welcomed and like they belong. With open hearts, we are dedicated to learning together. WSU and the WSU Alumni Association are committed to achieving an ethically and socially just society for all. Instituting social change on a large scale begins at home. We are committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion throughout every aspect of the WSU system. In the process, a climate will be created that enables underrepresented alums, students, faculty, and staff to not only survive but thrive in communities that foster a sense of belonging in a culture of inclusion. Creation of an institutional culture in which inclusion and equity are the norms, a model that helps move the world toward a place in which all people are treated with dignity and respect.

WSU alumnus Jesse Lyon ’92 envisioned a trophy that would reflect the shared history of both universities and partnered with Oregon State alumnus, geologist and sculptor Ian Madin ’86 to bring that vision to life.

This isn’t just a trophy. The stone itself tells a story.

Crafted from Oregon-found glacial erratic rock and Columbia River basalt, the trophy incorporates materials connected to the ancient floods that shaped the Pacific Northwest.

Millions of years of geology. More than 120 years of rivalry. One trophy.

Today, we had the privilege of presenting an honorary alumni award to former Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers.

While she isn't a WSU graduate, her decades of service to Washington, support for our communities and partnership with Washington State University have left a lasting impact. It was an honor to recognize her commitment to public service and collaboration.

The recognition took place during the ribbon-cutting for WSU's new USDA research facility, an exciting investment in the future of agriculture, food systems and plant science.

The celebration also brought together fellow Cougs Senator Patty Murray and Congressman Michael Baumgartner, whose continued partnership helps advance WSU's research mission and impact.

Congratulations, Cathy, and thank you for your service!

One Coug. One idea. A new rivalry tradition.
For Jesse Lyon ’92, Cougar pride has always extended far beyond his time in Pullman.
An Agricultural Economics graduate and Harry S. Truman Scholar, Jesse met his wife, fellow Coug Carmi Lyon ’92, at WSU and has remained deeply connected to the university through advisory boards, Cougar Athletics, and the Cougar Collective.

More than three decades after graduation, Jesse has found another way to leave his mark on WSU history.

From researching historic college football traditions to commissioning a one-of-a-kind trophy inspired by the Pacific Northwest, Jesse turned his vision into reality.

What started as one alumnus's idea has become a new tradition for generations of Cougs and Beavs to come.
Stay tuned as we share the story behind the trophy!
