Stone Laboratory Stone Laboratory is the oldest freshwater biological field station in the United States.

Stone Laboratory has been an invaluable asset in freshwater biology research, science education and outreach. The lab serves as a base for more than 65 researchers from 12 agencies and academic institutions, all working year-round to solve the most pressing problems facing the Great Lakes. Join the Stone Laboratory team! We are hiring and accepting applications through June 4, 2026 for the Facilities Operations Technician. Please spread the word!

This position is seasonal full-time (early Spring to late Fall) and located at Put-in-Bay, OH. Duties include assisting and coordinating maintenance of all facilities, grounds, and vehicles; performing tasks including minor carpentry, painting, drywall, plumbing and electrical; operating and maintaining mowers, trimmers, chainsaws, tractors, and vehicle fleet; and more.

DEADLINE: Applications for the 2027 Sea Grant Knauss Marine Policy Fellowship in Washington, D.C. are due June 3! The program matches highly qualified graduate students with “hosts” in the legislative and executive branches of government for a one-year paid fellowship.

Hear from 2025 fellow Rachael Finigan, who served as a research specialist at the National Sea Grant Office:

“I learned so much during the year and met such incredible people. The biggest thing I took away was knowing the direction I am hoping my career will go. I was interested in research communications before, but I absolutely loved my job and would love to continue doing similar work.”
