We are excited to announce our newest course offering. Course Title:
BIO-802: The Rare Vermont Great White Shark

Course Description:
Long whispered about in the depths of Lake Champlain and occasionally spotted in flooded cornfields, the elusive Vermont Great White Shark remains one of New England’s most mysterious apex predators. This highly serious and absolutely real course explores the biology, migration patterns, and maple syrup-based diet of this misunderstood creature.

Students will examine critical questions such as: How does a shark navigate covered bridges? What role do flannel shirts play in camouflage? And why does it only appear during mud season?

Fieldwork includes early morning stakeouts at local swimming holes, interpretive analysis of “definitely shark” sightings, and a final lab where students attempt to identify dorsal fins vs. drifting logs.

Learning Outcomes:

Confidently explain why sharks thrive in landlocked, winter-heavy environments

Distinguish between a Vermont Great White and a particularly aggressive trout

Develop advanced skills in speculative wildlife storytelling

Required Materials:
Waders, binoculars, and an open mind.

Note:
Course may be canceled if the shark returns to its natural habitat (🙃).

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of alumna Yishay Garbasz ’96. A Berlin-based interdisciplinary artist, Yishay was widely recognized for her powerful work exploring trauma, memory, and identity.

She often spoke of Landmark College as foundational to her journey, noting that it was here, at the age of 25, that she truly learned to write.

Yishay described her work as being “engaged in a continual process of making the invisible visible, making the unsightly tenderly seen.” Her artwork has been exhibited in galleries and museums around the world, including Tokyo, Seoul, New York City, Miami, Boston, Berlin, Paris, and London.

Her work was also featured in Phaidon’s “Great Women Artists” art publication, as well as in Prestel’s “Citizen women: Illustrated history of the women’s movement."

What a wonderful way to close out Giving Week. Today’s was truly finntastic!

While we are still finalizing the total number of donations, what is already clear is the incredible strength of the Landmark community.

We are deeply grateful to every donor, volunteer, and supporter who helped make this week so special—and to all those who continue to share the story of this truly magical place in the hills of Vermont. Your enthusiasm and generosity mean so much to our students and to the future of Landmark College.
