in Liberal Studies is an interdisciplinary program that provides students with a broad range of opportunities for in-depth study of issues that bring together different fields of academic specialization. Taught by faculty who are internationally recognized scholars who are at the forefront of academic disciplines that range from sociology and history to languages and literatures, students in the M

.A. in Liberal Studies have taken full advantage of the opportunities St. John’s offers for graduate study in Rome, in Argentina, and on the New York campuses of one of the nation’s most diverse universities. Choosing from tracks that include humanities, social sciences, cultural studies, and a concentration in women’s and gender studies, students learn to think creatively and critically about key issues in our globalized world from an interdisciplinary perspective. A wide variety of career opportunities are available to students with an M.A. The interdisciplinary character of the program provides opportunities in career fields that range from education to urban planning, from media to marketing and policy analysis. Many students also take advantage of the opportunities that the M.A. in Liberal Studies provides for advancement in their current places of employment. Liberal Studies graduates are in demand because employers place a premium on such skills as communication and critical thinking.
