marketing, medical, and software industries. Write for a small organization, in a large corporate setting, or as a freelance writer. DEGREES IN THE PROFESSIONAL COMMUNICATIONS PROGRAM
A Professional Communications degree at Gateway is a two-year associate’s degree. After graduating, you’ll be ready to research, plan, create, publish, and edit communication products. These include ads, articles, brochures, grant proposals, product documentation, sales collateral, scripts, social media, software user assistance, and websites. As a professional or technical writer, you’ll convert raw information into knowledge. Grant writers seek funding for services and research that help a community or develop new products. Copywriters use creative writing to sell services and products, and technical writers let people know how to use them. Web content developers communicate online so people can access information on mobile phones, social media, and websites. There are many potential careers for writers. You can enter a career as a content architect, copywriter, editor, freelance writer, information architect, information designer, proposal writer, public relations specialist, technical illustrator, technical journalist, technical writer, training specialist, usability tester, web content developer, and more. PROFESSIONAL AND TECHNICAL WRITER CERTIFICATES
A Professional Communications certificate looks great on a resume when you already have a degree in another field. It can also help you in your current job. It reassures employers that you can communicate effectively with coworkers and clients. The National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) and Association of American Colleges and Universities (AACU) survey employers each year about skills they want employees to have. These surveys show a high demand for the computer, critical thinking, problem-solving, and writing skills developed in a Professional Communications certificate. So, earn a copywriter certificate to complement business, graphics, and marketing skills. Earn a grant writer certificate to complement human services and medical skills. Earn a technical writer certificate to complement engineering and IT skills. Or, develop your own custom 12- or 24-credit writing certificate with classes right for you. WEBSITE
