Students in Dr. Bolin’s HNRS 310: Mass Incarceration & the Prison Experience course showcased their creativity through projects exploring key issues related to incarceration.

Work included infographics and posters on topics like period poverty, STIs, families, and the brain/behavioral impact of incarceration, alongside a prison-themed magazine, cookbook, and cooking demo. Students also created a Game of Life-style board game, a model prison cell block, a musical composition, and powerful crafts using everyday materials.

Congratulations to Honors College senior Deirdre McCurdy (pictured right), who was named the winner of the 2026 King Award for Scholarly Excellence in Honors. Her honors thesis on the frescoes in the Catacombs of Priscilla as primary sources was an authentic exploration of her interests within the History major. Thank you to Dr. Mark Munzinger for mentoring this capstone.

So excited to learn that honors alumna Abbi Green '25 has received a Graduate Research Fellowship from the National Science Foundation! The grant will support Abbi's proposed study on soilborne pathogens while she is working on her interdisciplinary Ph.D. in computational biology at Virginia Tech.
