🌟Ambassador Spotlight

Meet our college ambassador Ashlynn Sarver, a rising senior from Bluefield, Virginia, in the Radford University Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders. In addition to her rigorous COSD courses, she is obtaining a minor in Special Education. Sarver plans to apply to graduate school to obtain her master’s in communication sciences and disorders.

When she’s not in class, Sarver enjoys traveling and spending time with her family. She says her favorite thing about Radford University is "how it feels like home – small area and everyone makes everybody feel like family.

⭐ Clinical Partner Spotlight: Carilion Clinic!

One of our vital partners for many of our programs, including respiratory therapy, is Carilion Clinic. We caught up with Carilion and our RT students on their last day of spring semester clinicals. 🩺🫁

Speaking about the partnership, Tara Wiedeman of Carilion, said, “Our partnership reflects a shared commitment to preparing the next generation of respiratory care professionals. By working closely together, we are able to combine our strengths to create meaningful clinical experiences that benefit both organizations and, most importantly, provide students with the hands-on learning and support they need to succeed. In honor of National EMS Week, we would like to express our appreciation for our emergency services students, faculty, and community members! 🚑💙 Thank you to the EMTs, paramedics, and first responders for providing care when it's needed most.

🎉🔑 The Key Hand-off ceremony for the Community Access Resources Education Service (CARES) Mobile Health Clinic (MHC) marks a new chapter in Radford University's commitment to community health. A big thank you goes to Anthem HealthKeepers for their incredible donation of a mobile clinic to Radford!

CARES is a university-wide initiative co-led by the College of Nursing and Waldron College of Health and Human Services that brings together faculty expertise, student learning and community partnerships to address local needs by expanding access to healthcare and mental health resources while allowing students to engage in meaningful, hands-on experiences.

In February, thirteen students from the Department of Occupational Therapy at Radford attended the World Federation of Occupational Therapists (WFOT) Congress held in Bangkok, Thailand! ✈️🇹🇭 The group was accompanied by faculty members Sara Smidl and Sarah Garrison. While there, Garrison presented on Creating Culturally Inclusive Shape-Changing Utensils for new Assistive Feeding Technology.

Students engaged with OT practitioners from around the world and attended cultural immersion experiences that included taking a Thai cooking class, visiting multiple temples, touring neighborhoods by boat and volunteering at an elephant sanctuary. To top it off, the group was accepted for a peer-reviewed presentation to discuss the program at the Waldron IPE symposium.

🌟Meet Hayle Bare, a recent 2026 of the Master of Social Work program from Sparta, North Carolina. Bare served as an ambassador for Waldron on the Radford University main campus during her senior year, representing social work. She plans to work in a clinical social work setting. She says, “Radford’s small class sizes and personalized support have been invaluable to my growth. What I have appreciated most is how invested professors are in my success and how connected and supportive the campus community feels.”
