Sarah Shuler '23 received the inaugural CEHD Rising Impact Award in 2025. 🏆 Hear how this recognition has inspired Sarah to continue giving back to her community.

"Being selected for the Rising Impact Award from the College of Education and Human Development was a tremendous honor and a meaningful affirmation of the work I have been fortunate to do through 4-H Youth Development. Creating opportunities for young people to learn, lead, and grow while supporting families and communities through educational programs is work I am deeply passionate about. The award also represents the collective efforts of colleagues, volunteers, community partners, and youth whose dedication makes this impact possible. I am especially grateful that Radford University continues to support and encourage me long after graduation. Receiving this recognition inspired me to continue giving back to the region I call home and seeking new ways to make a positive impact through education, service, and youth development."

RCPT 229 Bike Packing is underway! Our students kicked off the class by learning essential trail bike repair skills. A big thank you to Andrew Hund from Hund’s Bicycle & Outdoor Store for showing us how to handle repairs when you’re out on the trail!

RCPT Alumni Ben Owen and Joel Neville share a special accomplishment!

Congratulations to Ben Owen who completed his Master Hiker designation at Machicomoco State Park!

Here is what was said about his journey from Chief Ranger of Visitor Experience, Joel Neville:

"Ben began his Trail Quest journey in 2020. His favorite park is Staunton River State Park, where he served as an AmeriCorps intern in the Visitor Center, leading interpretive programs. His biggest challenge was finding time to schedule visits to every park, but in the end, he says it was an incredible way to explore the entire state of Virginia."
