The Moo Mobile has been on the moooooo-ve! 🚚🐄

From NASA Artemis astronaut Christina Koch's special visit to campus to Wolfpack Welcome Week, Packapalooza, and beyond, it’s been the sweetest start to the semester.

Designed for NC State campus events and dairy education outreach opportunities, the Moo Mobile serves as an educational extension of NC State University’s 389-acre Dairy Research and Teaching Farm. Wherever it rolls, the truck helps connect the Wolfpack with agriculture, share how dairy makes its way from cow to cone, and highlight the people, students, and science behind NC dairy, all while serving up Howling Cow scoops along the way.🍦

We know a Jersey girl when we see one. Do you? 👀🐮

Around NC State University’s dairy farm, there are a few clues that can help you pick a Jersey out. Look for fawn-to-brown coats, dark noses with lighter muzzles, big, expressive eyes, and a smaller frame than the other dairy breeds. 👀

But don’t let their smaller size fool you! Jerseys are known for producing milk that’s especially rich in butterfat and protein, which makes them some of the mightiest members of the herd. 🥛💪

Have you ever herd the story of how NC State University’s dairy farm got its start? 🐄📚

The first chapter starts hundreds of miles away in New York. Wilmington, NC native and The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill graduate William Rand Kenan Jr. purchased his first family Jersey, Daisy, there in 1913. His interest in the breed grew from there, eventually leading him to establish Randleigh Dairy, a 470-acre farm dedicated to Jersey cattle, dairy research and innovation.

After Kenan passed away in 1965, he donated Randleigh Dairy to the UNC System. The following year, 37 cows and 41 heifers from his herd made the journey to NC State, bringing the Randleigh legacy back to his home state.

That legacy is still moo-ving forward today. Every Jersey in our herd is a direct descendant of those original Randleigh Jerseys! 🐮

This , we’re giving Millie the title of honorary taste tester. 🐾🍦

NC State University's Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost, Dr. Jim Pfaendtner stopped by the Howling Cow Moo Mobile at a recent campus event, and Millie came along for an extra-special pup cup. Safe to say, she gave it two paws up!
