MIDSHIPMEN CRUISE SHOUTOUT‼️‼️

MIDN 4/C TerBurgh, Riggs, Sanchez, Kennedy, and McGrath spent the past month in San Diego, California at Cortramid West. Cortramid is 4 weeks long where rising 3/C spend a week with different communities including Aviation, Submarine, Surface Warfare, and Marines.

Their favorite experiences include flying the T-34 during aviation week, exploring San Diego, and going to Padres games!!

MIDSHIPMEN CRUISE SHOUTOUT‼️‼️

Midshipman 1/C Lillich and Midshipman 1/C O’Connor recently went on their aviation cruise in Lemoore, California at the VFA-125 squadron. VFA-125, the “Rough Raiders”, is a Fleet Replacement Squadron that trains both Navy and Marine Corps pilots and personnel to fly the F-35C Lightning II.

MIDN O’Connor’s favorite thing was “definitely getting a backseat ride it the jet. They took us through the Sidewinder which was a path through the mountains where we did aerobatic stuff.” He also loved going over to kings canyon and sequoia national forest to go hiking/camping.

This past weekend, our graduating OC’s, MECEPS, and MIDN became newly commissioned Ensigns and Second Lieutenants. Congratulations on your great achievements and good luck on your future Naval and Marine Corps endeavors! GO NAVY⚓️

As the Spring 26’ semester comes to a close, our unit reflects on events, achievements, experiences, and more, through our semesterly 1MC! Now onto summer cruises!!

With just one week left until commissioning, our firstie Friday is Everett Miller! MIDN Miller is from Chesapeake, Virginia, and majors in Chemical Engineering. Commissioning as a Student Naval Aviator, MIDN Miller will attend flight school in Pensacola, Florida, but will first attend Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California for Aerospace Engineering!

One of his favorite memories throughout college was “spending my summer in Whidbey Island with all my friends. We got a chance to fly in P-8s and travel all across the Pacific Northwest. Between hiking through the cascades, jumping in the Pacific, and doing karaoke with a Growler squadron, we had a blast out there. Trips and memories like that create lifelong friendships.”

MIDN Miller’s advice he wish he knew before college is that “the most important thing is to cherish the relationships you make along the way. Tests will be stressful, mornings will be early, and sometimes the program can feel like a lot, but there are people around us are doing it too. Make time to spend with the people you have, because those are the moments we all will look back and reflect on.”

Our firstie Friday for the week is Midshipman Brynn Elliott! MIDN Elliott is from Danville, New Jersey and major in Science, Technology, & Society with a minor in Environmental Science. After graduating and commissioning, she will attend flight school to become a Naval Flight Officer.

Her favorite college memory has been attending summer cruises, especially “my experience as an MI at NSI. You meet people on summer cruises, stand watch with them at 0200, or share candidates in a compartment as Midshipman Instructors. Then you go to a Leadership Conference and see many familiar faces. It is a special kind of joy in picking up those conversations where you left off, swapping stories, and realizing how much each of you has grown since that shared experience. The way you click immediately is such a special thing that I am so grateful I experienced. The bonds I made with those other midshipmen are unmatched and will last a lifetime.”

MIDN Elliott’s best advice for incoming 4/C is “Take as many pictures as possible throughout the years! Say yes to new experiences and challenge yourself. Attitude is everything — apathy kills.”

Congratulation to MIDN Blades and MIDN Scarff on completing their Nuclear interview at Naval Reactors in Washington D.C! Your hard work, dedication, and discipline has paid off.

Bravo Zulu to LT Clavin on preparing them with guidance and mentorship. The Navy’s future is bright, go Navy!

The NROTC IM football team wrapped up another great season last week with their end of year awards ceremony. Congratulations and well done to all who participated this season!

We are 28 days and counting from commissioning and this week we’re featuring Officer Candidate Sawyer Goodwin. OC Goodwin is a nuclear engineer from Spartanburg, South Carolina. Before joining the STA-21 program, ETN1 Goodwin served in the submarine force and will continue this service as a commissioned officer.

His favorite memory at NC State is getting to use the PULSTAR research reactor we have on campus in labs and experiments throughout his time as a student. “Being part of a program with a research reactor gives students hands-on experience with concepts like neutronics, heat transfer, and radioactive activation and decay, which sets NC State apart from many other institutions.“

Like many of our OCs and MECEPs, OC Goodwin has had to learn how to balance family life with his time as both a student and a sailor. “Balancing school, the Navy, and family life has been a challenge since joining the STA-21 program. The biggest lesson I’ve learned is to be fully present in whatever you’re doing. If you are home, be home. And if you’re in class, be in class. There is no time in the day for half-focused efforts”

With just five weeks before commissioning, today we’re highlighting Master Sergeant Christian Cid. MSgt Cid is from Menifee, California and is majoring in Nutrition Applied Science. He will be commissioning as a Second Lieutenant in the US Marine Corps through the Marine Enlisted Commissioning Education Program.

His favorite memory at NC State is running across the field at Carter-Finley stadium in red and white coveralls. During our annual military appreciation day game, select members of each branch have a chance to lead the Wolfpack football team out of the locker room as part of the pregame celebration. Most recently, we played Florida State and won 21-11.

Becoming a MECEP allows exceptional Marines to earn a college degree and leverage their experience in the while enlisted to become quality officers. MSgt Cid worked as an Engineer Equipment Chief (1349) before attending NC State. “I am pursuing becoming an officer to seek higher responsibility with the opportunity to lead Marines and have a positive impact on their careers and lives.”
