Please see the following message from Dr. Yarneccia D. Dyson, Head of the School of Social Work.
Dear School of Social Work Faculty, Staff, Students, Alumni, and Community Stakeholders,
Welcome to the 2022-2023 Academic Year! With deep gratitude, I extend my warmest greetings to you all as we embark upon this new season together. I am proud to serve as the Department Head for the School of Social Work and look forward to partnering with you all to advance the mission and vision of our School, College, and NC State, as a whole.
Listening and Learning Tour:
In the coming weeks, I will begin a Listening and Learning Tour where dedicated time will be spent during the first months of my term, listening and learning more about you, your commitments to the School of Social Work, and ideas for how you envision our School of Social Work enacting the greatest impact on campus, in the community, and within the social work profession/social work education, as a whole. The Listening and Learning Tour will occur as a series of group meetings—both virtually and in person --and I invite each of you to schedule one on one time with me, if you prefer this format. My goal is to complete the listening and learning tour by the end of this semester and share my findings/observations by early Spring 2023. These insights will ultimately seed the launch of our updated Strategic Plan. Dr. Stansbury and I will share more details about the Strategic Planning Process soon.
Leadership Theme:
Each year, I publish a “theme” that summarizes the goals and commitments that I will prioritize in order to be an effective and collaborative Department Head for the School of Social Work. This year’s theme is and I am committed to activating excellence in all that we do including working collaboratively with authenticity, cultivating engagement in order to , fostering empowerment and impact, as well as implementing innovation through our programs, partnerships, and beyond.
I hope that each of you had a rejuvenating summer inclusive of activities and moments that fill you with joy and restoration. It is indeed a great honor to welcome you all and I look forward to our time together.
Warmly,
Yarneccia D. Dyson, Ph. D. MSW
