A Sailboat Race Buoy Like No Other
The offshore race buoy developed by Senior Engineering students at Marquette University for the MAST (Milwaukee Area Sail & Trail) club was launched Monday in Lake Michigan. Forespar donated carbon tubing to help reduce weight and lower the center of gravity so it can float tall and straight. Painted orange, the tubing helps form the top derrick portion of the buoy. Besides the carbon components, the new buoy also sends wind, wave, water and current data back to shore for all boaters to use.
