Kaden McGruder graduated from Hinds CC on Thursday, May 14. There were times he thought he wouldn't finish, but thankfully, he was able to create a new strategy for success with help from the Student Retention Center.

Here's what he had to say:

“Working with Mrs. Janella John-Sulton as my Retention Specialist was essential to my success during the semester. She was the only advisor I went to in my freshman year, and she helped me get back on track with my grades when I was close to dropping out. She opened up new opportunities by showing me different majors so I could stay enrolled, because she truly believed I was meant for something greater. Along with my kinesiology instructor, Rod Jones, Mrs. John-Sulton showed that they genuinely care about their students. Their one-on-one conversations with me changed my whole perspective on college and motivated me to do things the right way. I am truly thankful for their support”.

The Film/Video and Animation and Simulation Design Technology programs hosted Mississippi Public Broadcasting ETV for hands-on demonstrations of how the two disciplines interact with each other in creative collaboration. They're looking forward to a continued partnership with these three departments.
