We are very excited to announce that Dr. Eskender A. Yousuf will be joining U of R’s School of Education as an Assistant Professor this fall!
Dr. Yousuf is a three-time alumnus of the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities, where he received his undergraduate degree in Communication Studies, master’s degree in Postsecondary Teaching and Learning, and Ph.D. in Educational Policy and Leadership in 2023. In the time since, he served as a research associate for the Center for Applied Research and Educational Improvement at UMN - Twin Cities and then took on a postdoctoral assignment at Carnegie Mellon’s Qatar campus in Doha, where he taught courses in Equity and Communication as well as Diverse Dialogue for Social Justice. His teaching experience spans graduate and undergraduate courses but importantly began as an elementary teacher in Saint Paul Public Schools.
Dr. Yousuf’s timely scholarship investigates the schooling experiences of African refugee and immigrant youth and advances culturally responsive school leadership to establish just schools for minoritized students — an area of expertise that is sure to resonate with and complement the work of our leaders for educational justice. His work has been featured in top-tier journals such as Educational Studies, Teachers College Record, and just this week he published a new article in Urban Education (https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/00420859261433948).
Help us give a warm welcome to Dr. Eskender Yousuf as he joins the he Department of Leadership and Higher Education at University of Redlands this August! 🎉
