For more than 50 years, Cañada College has provided enriching and life-changing educational opportunities for the residents of San Mateo County. With the support and guidance from award-winning faculty and staff, residents can pursue certificates and degrees for career training or to serve as a transfer gateway to four-year colleges and universities. Located in the heart of the Silicon Valley, Cañada College offers hundreds of day, evening, and weekend courses in more than 40 quality instructional programs, including sciences, business, multi-media, medical assisting, the arts, and technical training. Cañada’s Black Student Union headed to San Diego for the Nandi Conference! 💛

BSU joined Black women from community colleges across California, alongside sister colleges College of San Mateo and Skyline College, for a powerful space centered on intentional sisterhood, connection, and the experiences of Black women in community college.

While in San Diego, students also visited San Diego State University and explored its Black Resource Center, learning more about Black student life and community there.

The BSU team is grateful for a week full of learning, Black joy, community, and meaningful connections across the District and statewide. ✨

Last Monday, Cañada College honored Indigenous Peoples Day, celebrating the lives, cultures, traditions, and sovereignty of Indigenous peoples. 🌅

It was also a time to acknowledge that the college sits on the traditional, unceded land of the Ramaytush and Muwekma Ohlone peoples, and that the institution has benefited from its use and occupation.

For the fourth year in a row, the Office of Equity brought students and staff to the Indigenous Peoples Sunrise Gathering on Alcatraz Island to stand in community. The gathering honors the legacy of the Alcatraz occupation and the ongoing movement for Indigenous sovereignty.

Make Your Voice Heard on November 3!

The statewide general election is Tuesday, November 3. San Mateo County has delivered vote-by-mail ballots, and today, Monday, October 19, is the deadline to register or update your voter information. If you miss today’s deadline, you can still register and vote in person at a county vote center through Election Day. Visit smccd.edu/registertovote to register, check your status and find other voting resources.

This year’s San Mateo County ballot includes Measure V, a bond measure placed on the ballot by the San Mateo County Community College District Board of Trustees. To learn what the measure includes and how it would be used, visit smccd.edu/futurefunding.

You can return completed ballots at an official ballot drop box at any of the three campuses through 8 p.m. on Election Day. Drop boxes are available at Cañada College in Parking Lot 4, College of San Mateo in Parking Lot A, and Skyline College in the median by Parking Lot N.

Cañada College recently welcomed a five-person peer review team from the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC) as part of the College’s comprehensive evaluation.

The team, made up of colleagues from community colleges across California, reviewed Cañada’s Institutional Self Evaluation Report (ISER) and is assessing the College’s alignment with regional accreditation standards, educational quality, and commitment to continuous improvement.

The College will learn of the ACCJC Commission’s final determination in January 2027.

The Chinese Culture Club, Cultural Center, STAR, and International Student Center came together to host this all-campus celebration honoring the autumn harvest and the joy of gathering with loved ones under the full moon.

Students, faculty, staff, and administrators shared lunch and mooncakes, heard the ancient legend of the moon goddess Chang’e, and got creative with:

🥮 Clay mooncake making
🖌️ Calligraphy painting

The best part? Hearing how each of our cultures celebrates the harvest season. Thank you to everyone who joined! 🧡
