The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office was proud to celebrate the completion of the 2026 Inside Out Program, made possible through the continued partnership with the Criminal Justice Department and Dr. Lanterman's class.

This unique program brings together UNR students and individuals incarcerated for a semester-long course focused on exploring criminal justice, understanding the system, and engaging in meaningful dialogue.

“Throughout the semester, participants worked side by side, building perspective and creating an environment centered on learning and growth,” said Sheriff Balaam. “A special thank you to Dr. Lanterman and her team at the University of Nevada, Reno, and to our WCSO Bridge team for their continued collaboration and commitment to building a stronger, more resilient community.”

The Criminal Justice Department held its very first CRJ Speaker Series event yesterday on Trauma-Informed Criminal Justice Practices.

Students from different majors came together to learn about real-world applications, career paths, and how trauma-informed approaches shape modern criminal justice.

The CRJ Department will hold events like this each semester, so be sure to keep a look out for our next CRJ Speaker Series event in the fall!
