Gabriella Detrick has been named a Harry S. Truman Scholar, representing Nevada in this year’s national cohort.
The Truman Scholarship is one of the nation’s most competitive and prestigious awards, supporting students pursuing careers in public service. Gabriella is the University’s eighth student to receive this honor.
Gabriella is highly involved on campus, specifically through her leadership positions in the Associated Students of the University of Nevada, Lamba Phi Xi Multicultural Sorority, and The Mixed Kids Club. In her academics, Gabriella has proven to be exceptional in her coursework.
Additionally, as a recipient of the Nevada Undergraduate Research Award (NURA), Gabriella is conducting her project, “How College Students Balance Freedom of Speech and Sense of Belonging,”.
In the future, Gabriella plans to pursue a Master of Public Policy. She hopes to become a policy analyst in the U.S. Department of Commerce.
It has been an honor to see Gabriella through her application process. We are so excited to continue watching her succeed in future endeavors!
We would like to extend special thanks to the Truman Foundation, Office of Undergraduate Fellowships, College of Liberal Arts, and Undergraduate Research, as well as Gabriella’s mentors: Dr. Jeffrey Griffin, Dr. Evan Brody, and Assemblymember Selena Torress-Fossett. We are also grateful to all other University community members who have played a part in her journey. Finally, of course, we want to acknowledge Gabriella’s family and friends for all of their support.
