♟️🏆 DOUBLE CHAMPIONS AND A COLLEGIATE TITLE FOR UTD CHESS! 🏆♟️

The University of Texas at Dallas Chess Team delivered an outstanding performance at the 2026 Southern California Open, held September 4-7 in Glendale, California, against a world-class field of grandmasters, international masters, and top competitors from around the globe.

🥇 GM Aditya Sachin Samant finished tied for 1st Place in the Open Section, scoring an undefeated 5/6 performance.

🥇 WIM Munkhzul Davaakhuu captured 1st Place in the Under 2300 Section, earning another tournament championship and continuing her strong run of results.

🎓 The Comets also secured 1st Place Collegiate Team, claiming top honors among college programs competing in the event.

Congratulations to Aditya, Munkhzul, and all of our players on an incredible Labor Day weekend representing UTD on the national stage. ☄️💚

♟️ The 2026-27 Season is Underway!

We officially kicked off the year with our first First Team meeting, bringing together our student-athletes as we set our sights on another exciting season of competition and achievement.

The meeting was an opportunity to reflect on an incredible summer, highlighted by our team's outstanding 4th place finish at the FIDE World University Team Championship, competing against some of the strongest university teams in the world.

We also recognized several players for their exceptional performances and contributions, celebrating individual accomplishments that continue to elevate our program.

The evening concluded with a wonderful team dinner, giving players, coaches, staff, and supporters a chance to connect, share stories, and build the camaraderie that makes our team special.

Here's to a successful 2026-27 season. Let's get to work! 💪♟️

🌎♟️ The world stage. The world's best. The Comets delivered.

UT Dallas earned a Top 4 finish worldwide at the inaugural FIDE World University Team Chess Championships, Aug. 3-9 in Almaty, Kazakhstan going undefeated in pool play and battling all the way to a dramatic blitz tiebreaker in the match for third place.

Congratulations to our student competitors and coaches for representing UT Dallas with excellence on the global stage! 💫

♟️ Big congratulations to Reserve player Minh Tran on an outstanding tournament performance at the Houston City Championships, Aug 14-16, highlighted by a draw against a 2600-rated Grandmaster. Taking points off a player of that caliber is a remarkable achievement and a testament to Minh's hard work, preparation, and competitive spirit. We're proud to see him flying the flag for our Reserve squad. 👏🔥
