Texas State Championship Highlights ♟

UTD Chess Coach, GM Mikhail Antipov, delivered a dominant performance to share 1st place and be co-Champion of Texas State, showcasing elite precision and consistency throughout the event.

Rising talent Minh Tran from the Reserve team also made a strong statement, battling through a tough field and earning a well‑deserved spot among the top finishers.

Shout out to GM Joshua Ruiz who he tied with and is also a UTD Alumnus.

A fantastic showing from both players at the 81st Texas State & Amateur Championship taking place in Houston, TX, May 22-25—Texas chess continues to shine. 🔥♟️

As a reminder, this event is now dedicated to Luis Salinas, who passed a few years ago and was a 20 year assistant director of the UTD Chess program. We salute you Luis!

Congratulations to our UTD team on an incredible achievement. After a thrilling online qualifier, they've secured a spot in the knockout stage of the FIDE World University Team Chess Championship 2026.

This past weekend, our team participated in the year-old eSports arena - a beautiful location that provided the perfect backdrop for their impressive performance. Their skills, strategy, and teamwork have paid off, and we couldn't be prouder of their accomplishment.

They say the third time's the charm. After unsuccessful bids in the championship round in Fall 2023 and Fall 2025, the UTD Chess Team has finally broken through to the Champions Title for the Spring 2026 season. 🏆

Proficient efforts by the following players: GM Koustav Chatterjee, GM Aditya Yair, GM Yair Parkhov, and GM Gergely Kantor 👏

There were 4 rounds today at blitz time controls of (5,+2).

These were the Division I results. Division II takes place tomorrow online. We have a team in that division too! It looks like they may broadcast the games, but there won't be any documentation of results. 🤜

There were also too super cool prizes.

One was a signed UTD Board with 5-time World Champion Grandmaster Vishy Anand. 👏
