The Terry Scholarship Program was established in 1986 by Mr. Howard Terry in support of Texas high school graduates and transfer scholars to receive a higher education at public colleges and universities within the state. The University of Texas at Dallas was added to the program in 2006 and has exponentially grown since then. We currently have 116 scholars for the 2014-2015 school year and could not be more excited for what is in store!

From Houston, Texas, Josue will graduate magna cm laude with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Healthcare Studies. He served as a Peer Advisor for University Housing, Service Chair for the scholar organization, Student Delegado for the Center for US-Latin American Initiatives, Joint Admission Medical Program-HPAC Student Ambassador, and a Contact Tracer for Dallas County Health and Human Services. He has volunteered in his community through various volunteering opportunities, notably as a Spanish Translator for Hope Clinic McKinney- a free medical clinic for the uninsured. He participated in the Clark Summer Research Program, Teaching Apprenticeship for Biology lab, internships at Baylor College of Medicine and UT Southwestern Medical School, and the Last Writers Program. Josue loves to be outside, eat good food, dance, and dance even more!

After graduation, Josue will be attending The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley School of Medicine participating in a dual MD/MPH degree with UT Health School of Public Health.

Raneem will be graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience and Latin honors. She served as President of the Minority Association of Pre-Medical Students, Secretary of the Terry Scholars Organization, Community outreach representative for the UT Dallas PINK chapter, and Vice Chief of the UTSW Texas Emergency Medicine Research Associates Program. Raneem was also a Transfer Mentor, an Undergraduate Biology Teaching Assistant, and worked as a Research Assistant in Dr. Engineer’s lab - assisting research on auditory processing via vagus nerve stimulation. During her time at UTD, Albosstani published a patient memoir called “Beyond Boundaries” and had the privilege of studying Islamic civilization abroad in Morocco, Spain, Gibraltar, and France.

After graduation, Raneem will be pursuing medicine and doing research.

Robert is graduating with a double major in Biology and Healthcare Studies. He is from Cedar Hill, Texas which is just a little south of the Dallas area. He loves to stay active by hanging out with friends or playing a variety of sports, as well as being indoor friendly by watching Netflix or reading a book. Robert served as this year's Terry Scholar President, while being involved with the Freshman Mentor Program as the Event Coordinator and Co-Director for Camp Kesem. He worked as a medical scribe at Charlton & Dallas Methodist Emergency Rooms during three years of his undergraduate career. Robert worked in Dr. De Nisco's lab and helped research recurrent UTIs.

Robert plans to take a gap year and continue gaining experience through work, research, and traveling. He hopes to continue his education in Physician's Assistant school afterwards.

Stephen graduated with a bachelor's degree in psychology with a minor in human resource management. Stephen was active in the Terry Scholars Organization and participated in Terry events. He is going on his fourth year working as a Quality Assurance Manager at a global technology company.

Stephen will be pursuing a master's degree of science in healthcare leadership and management this fall at the University of Texas at Dallas. He is currently an applicant to join the Stephen Feinberg Scholars Scholarship program with the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation.

Divina is graduating summa cm laude with a degree in American Studies with concentrations in Gender Studies and Latin American Studies. Divina received major honors and graduated as a member of the prestigious Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society. Divina served as the vice president, historian, and first-year Terry Peer Advisor for the Terry Scholars Student Organization. She was involved in campus leadership as a mentor to first-year students in the Freshman Mentor Program and Delegada in Dr. Rankin’s Center for U.S. Latin American initiatives. Divina partook in advocacy efforts as an AmeriCorps Program Assistant at Heart House, an after-school education nonprofit for refugee children, collaborator on the Divestment Committee for Students for Justice in Palestine, and student leader for racially and ethnically underrepresented students at the annual UT Dallas Multicultural Center’s Student Welcome.

Divina is taking a gap year as a Fulbright ETA in the Canary Islands and will attend law school in the near future.

Genesis is a first-generation student, actually the first in her family to ever receive a bachelor’s degree. Genesis is graduating with a bachelor of science in Healthcare Studies. She served served as the social chair and historian for the Terry Scholars Student Organization and was also a part of the First-Gen Student Program and UTeach Dallas.

Genesis plans on going to nursing school and getting her BSN to become a registered nurse and later on getting her certification to become an aesthetician nurse.

Blanka will graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and with CV Honors. She served as the Secretary and as an Enrichment Advisor for the Terry Scholars. She worked as a student associate for two summers in the Cellular and Integrative Physiology Department at the UT Health Science Center in San Antonio.

Blanka will be attending Virginia Tech as a PhD student in the Translational Biology, Medicine, and Health program. Blanka has a bunny named Naveen and a dog named Cecil, and she likes going on walks, doing crafts, and calling her mom.

Daniel is graduating with a degree in mechanical engineering. He does research at the Boundary Layer and Subsonic Tunnel, also known as the BLAST wind tunnel. Before Transferring to UT Dallas he founded and served as vice president of a Robotics team at Sam Houston State University known as KatatroniX.

He plans to go into the workforce until starting his masters degree in mechanical engineering with a focus in design and manufacturing in the Fall of 2023.

Rene graduated cm laude with a major in biomedical engineering. He worked at Dr. Victor Varner's Bioengineering laboratory for his first two years of undergrad. Rene was active in the Comet Opera club, performing numerous times during the pre-pandemic settings and was active with Three Oaks Hospice Volunteering during the pandemic.

He will be working as an Applications Engineer for National Instruments based in Austin, Texas and will be working on achieving his master's in electrical engineering soon.

Before moving to Dallas, Mohammad spent his childhood in Jordan. He is a first-generation student graduating with a degree in finance. Mohammad currently works as a project manager and also focuses on entrepreneurial pursuits. He is a three-year Camp Kesem counselor, a fellow in the CAFÉ program, and served as the service chair in the Terry Scholars Student Organization. Mohammad also traveled to Europe to complete an independent research study on blockchain technology and cryptocurrencies.

He enjoys playing soccer, reading, and traveling in his free time. After graduation, Mohammad will be working in the finance industry.
