Today we had the pleasure of hosting several instructors from Hinds Community College to tour our manufacturing facility in Clinton, MS. These instructors lead programs in the Hinds Community College Workforce Division, including several that relate to the personnel demands at Taylor Power Systems.

The meeting included discussions on various ways to partner for onsite student training, workforce development, and career placement upon academic completion.

Our Lifecycle Manager Jonathan Donahoe received an Associate degree from Hinds Community College in 1999 and immediately came to work for us at Vermeer MidSouth, serving the greater Jackson, Mississippi community. He has personally hired six technicians from Hinds who have a tenure at Vermeer MidSouth of 2-10 years.

“The Hinds Diesel program has really changed the culture here,” he said. “The experience with the techs that I have brought here has been phenomenal. The relationship we have with Hinds is great.”

Driving Excellence: Hinds CC & John Deere Forge Path in Diesel Tech - Experience transformative training on John Deere engines.

The Diesel Academy’s heavy equipment hydraulics class spent some time with the logging equipment operator program. Our students started their day learning about logging operations in the state. Each student got a chance to run state of the art logging simulators in the classroom. The day concluded with students out on the logging site operating a John Deere skidder and a John Deere knuckleboom.

The Logging equipment operator Program is in partnership with the Mississippi Logging Association and the Mississippi Forestry Commission. The training is an 8 to 16-week program designed to equip students with little or no experience to become a logging equipment operator with safety certifications as well as Professional Logging Manager (PLM) status.

On June 16th, The Diesel Academy hosted a signing day for the first class of our John Deere Certified Technician Training. This class of 6 students will help pave the way for future John Deere certified technicians from Hinds CC.

Present were representatives from Hinds CC, Stribling Equipment, and John Deere along with the Commissioner of Agriculture Andy Gipson.

The John Deere certified technician training is focused primarily on the Construction and Forestry side of John Deere. It is designed for students who are interested in a career with a john Deere certified dealer, such as Stribling Equipment. In order to complete the John Deere Certified training a student must complete an Associate degree in Diesel Equipment Technology with Hinds CC and a 16week internship with a John Deere certified dealer.
