A successful application to medical school takes more than a stellar academic record 🌟. That’s why our program makes every effort to help our students grow their experiences to become the most competitive applicant possible. With the VCU Health Student Observer program, our students are paired with physicians who practice a variety of specialties just steps away from the classroom to gain valuable shadowing hours! 🧑‍⚕️

Alexa has been shadowing in the hospital for one semester and shares that she is “really grateful for CERT for connecting me with Dr. Lange and helping with my clinical hours!”

After graduating from CERT, Shaanit matriculated into the VCU School of Medicine. Below are his takeaways:

“I would recommend the CERT program to a premed student. I believe the workload needed to succeed in the CERT program helps to prepare you for the rigor of medical school. I also attribute the courses in the CERT program to helping me prepare and score well on the MCAT which further exemplified my readiness for the medical school curriculum. I believe the CERT program was a strong contributing factor for me getting into and doing well in medical school”.

✔️ CERT program completion is required prior to admission into a VCU SOM M.S. program.

CERT students can also set up ad hoc non-credit volunteer or non-graded, for-credit Directed Research projects with Faculty Investigators.

Sagar graduated CERT in 2019, here’s what he has to say about his experience:

“As a VCU CERT alum and a current M4 at VCU SOM I would definitely recommend CERT to those looking to bolster their GPA for medical school admissions. The curriculum helped prepare me for medical school as most of the material is reiterated during the pre-clinical years which led to success and an advantage compared to others in my class. ...There are so many doctors I’ve come across in my career and while interviewing for residencies who completed this program, so there are definitely numerous success stories.”
