IU East Mindful Explorations Presents Monique Morris
Facebook Live

We want to invite faculty, staff, students, and community partners to view and engage with the Pushout documentary before Dr. Monique Morris' talk on October 6 for the best experience possible.

To give a starting point for an individual reflection or group discussion, we would like to suggest these three questions:

Two major concepts in Pushout are adultification and criminalization experienced by Black girls. How would you describe these concepts in your own words? How might it specifically be important to pay attention to adultification and criminalization in your community, school, or professional role?

Pushout focuses on childhood trauma and adverse childhood experiences (ACEs). How might these experiences take unique shape for Black girls? What could you do to respond to young people experiencing trauma in your community, school, or professional role?

How can a better understanding of the experiences of Black girls lead to positive changes in education? Further, how can a better understanding of the experiences of Black girls lead to positive changes in other social institutions (i.e., health care, faith communities, places of business)?

Anyone with an IU login can view the film by going directly to: https://purl.dlib.indiana.edu/iudl/media/q27z60kj19
Community members can access the film with a guest account by contacting the Campus Library at [email protected]

Instructor Tommy Renfro is passionate about the IU East family. He’s passionate about writing and performing upbeat music. And, he’s also passionate about the Cincinnati Bengals. “I’ve been a loyal fan for all of the garbage years,” he says with a laugh.
