Adelina "Nina" Otero-Warren was a prominent suffragist and community leader in New Mexico's social, political, and educational reform movements in the early 20th century. Born in 1881 into a Hispanic family in New Mexico, she was deeply involved in the state's cultural and political life. Otero-Warren was very influential in the suffrage movement, advocating for women's voting rights both locally and nationally. She played a key role in ensuring that the suffrage movement in New Mexico was inclusive of Hispanic women, making efforts to present the suffrage arguments in both English and Spanish. In addition to her work in the suffrage movement, Otero-Warren was also involved in education reform. She served as the superintendent of public schools in Santa Fe, where she focused on improving the quality of education, particularly for Hispanic and indigenous communities, by introducing bilingual education programs to help bridge cultural gaps. Otero-Warren's contributions extended to politics as well; she was a candidate for the U.S. Congress in 1922, making her the first Hispanic woman to run for a congressional seat. Although she did not win, her campaign was significant in the history of women's political involvement in the United States. Her legacy is remembered for her efforts in advocating for women's rights, educational reform, and the preservation of Hispanic culture and language in the face of Americanization pressures.

While Dr. Wyatt Tee Walker may not have had hands-on application toward voting rights, his strategic knowledge and orchestration of non-violent civil disobedience was a key asset to the Civil and Voting Rights Movement. Walker's tactfulness and peacefulness were shaped by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. hence Walker's appointment as Chief of Staff. In an interview with the National Visionary Leadership Project, Walker expressed that he used to carry around a nickel-platted Smith and Weston. It was not until Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. that Walker had a change of heart stating, “It was Dr. King that taught me to put the gun down” (Claflin, 44-45). Walker and King grew a legacy together built upon their religious backgrounds and sentiments toward the church. While Walker was known as the curbside pastor, his contribution to the Civil Rights movement was monumental on a national scale. Walker ensured that Civil Rights campaigns received the national coverage and recognition they deserved. As mentioned in the photos above, Walker v. City of Birmingham was more than an unconstitutional violation from the city of Birmingham, it was a statement
(Oppenheimer, 661-667). The national coverage a Supreme Court case garners, no matter the ruling, is immense and extensive. As a better example of national coverage, Walker served as a lead director of the 1963 March on Washington. The march would be recognized as one of the largest political rallies in United States history. Again, while Walker may not have had hands-on involvement with Voting Rights, his coordination and strategic planning laid the foundation for prominent United States Civil Rights events.
