Podophyllum peltatum is an herbaceous perennial plant commonly known as mayapple or ground lemon. Mayapples are woodland plants, typically growing in colonies derived from a single root and are commonly found at Maywoods. They are easily identified with their palmately lobed umbrella-like leaves. Flowers are white, yellow or red with a 1" to 2" diameter and 6 to 9 pedals. An interesting fact is that compounds derived from this plant can treat plantar warts. 🌾🌱🌿

Bess Beetles are beetles within the Passalidae family. Most of the 500 plus species are tropical but a few species do live in North America and can be found at Maywoods. These beetles usually live in groups and take up residence in rotting logs or stumps. A cool fact about these beetles is that they are able to produce acoustical signals, meaning they communicate with sounds!πŸͺ²πŸͺ³πŸ›πŸœ
