A key strategic goal for the Center for Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Creativity (CEIC) is to develop student-faculty-community partnerships that build capacity and create exceptional learning opportunities. The CEIC has been collaborating with Marlene Lindsey, founder of the Black Legacy Project of Wayne County, Indiana.

"The mission of the Black Legacy Project of Wayne County, Indiana, is to provide dedicated exhibits to document the contributions of African Americans in Wayne County—which, in turn, would be available as research materials for students and historians in Wayne County and beyond."

Phase 1 of the collaboration is for Earlham students to help Marlene Lindsey and her team create an exhibition for summer 2023. This exhibition will be featured at various venues throughout Richmond and Wayne County, Indiana.

On Saturday, May 7, Teams HEART and Pearl Tea competed against each other for the final round of the 2021-22 Earlham EPIC Grand Challenge. This year's theme was “Utilizing the power of integrative collaboration to improve the quality of life for 25,000 citizens in Wayne County, Indiana by 2027.” Team Pearl Tea (Allama Sijan ‛22 and Rutendo Magade ‛23) developed a business plan around a Boba tea establishment, providing a healthy alternative to folks in and around Wayne County. Team HEART (Ahmed Deeb ‛23, Tess Cunningham ‛23, Medrine Kihanga ‛24, and Nathaly Montaya ‛24) have formed a partnership with the Richmond Fire Department to develop an EMT training course for county residents. Both teams gave a strong showing with HEART narrowly taking 1st place and Pearl Tea being awarded 2nd place. Please congratulate the teams on all of their hard work.

Say hello to O’Jeanique, the Director of our EPIC Center Recruiting Team! She is in charge of all that goes into spreading the word about our signature program, EPIC Journey. O’Jeanique originally started working in admissions for Wittenberg University as an undergraduate student. There, she was also a peer mentor, tour guide, and helped lead multiple student organizations, among many other things. After graduating, O’Jeanique decided to pursue a career in higher education and eventually decided to come to Earlham! When asked about how she ended up here, she said, “I think it was fate that led me to Earlham. It is such a wonderful place and I feel so lucky that Earlham chose me!” O’Jeanique’s favorite part of her job is getting to work with the students here and watching them grow. She is also very excited about the reopening of Rose City!

Congratulations, Nathaly!

[CELEBRATION] 🎊🎊🎉 We are so happy for sophomore, Nathaly Montoya Jarquin! She was offered an operations internship with Credible and has secured two more interviews with Bloomberg and Panasonic! 🎊🎊🎉

Nathaly is a Global Management major who wants to pursue an MBA in Operations Management after graduation.

Nathaly's tips:
"Don't get discouraged [by rejection]. I applied to so many things and was rejected so much.

Believe in your own abilities, skills, and experience. Try not to get imposter syndrome.

Definitely, find a professor who believes in you— Gene Hambrick has been a great cheerleader. Eboni helped me with cover letters, resumes, interviews."
