VCU Harp Harp students at VCU enjoy performing with university bands, orchestra, opera, chamber groups, and engaging with downtown Richmond and beyond.

Located in the heart of downtown Richmond, Virginia Commonwealth University's harp program offers harp majors (BM, BA, B-Mus Ed) access to world-class instruction through private lessons and master classes, ensembles including VCU Orchestra and VCU's Symphonic Wind Ensemble with which to perform, as well as harp ensemble and chamber music performance options. Secondary harp lessons are also availa

ble to VCU students with previous harp background and to music majors seeking a secondary instrumental area. Come join a vibrant student community in one of the coolest, most affordable urban settings on the eastern seaboard!

We are excited to share our first virtual/collaborative harp ensemble video with you! This is the "Ni**od" variation from Edward Elgar's Enigma Variations, played by 13 harpists!

Huge thanks to everyone who joined and contributed a video. We hope this music can help bring healing harp vibes to our hurting world.

Hello harp friends! Does the pandemic "stay-at-home" order have you down and depressed, and missing harp ensemble? If so, we have a fun project we hope you'll join in on!

These next few weeks, we will be playing a special COVID-19 arrangement of "Ni**od" from Edward Elgar's Enigma Variations--individually with click tracks--but together in spirit and through the magic of video editing. πŸ˜‰

We would love to have any interested student harpists & friends submit audio or video recordings! Parts, click tracks, and full instructions are in this Google folder.

Send your recording to Dr. Thorburn [[email protected]] by Friday, May 8, for inclusion in our virtual harp ensemble video! Hop on board, and spread the word!

It's a busy weekend as VCU harpists occupy the Carpenter Theatre at Dominion Energy Center! Dr. Thorburn performed BartΓ³k's iconic Music for Strings, Percussion and Celeste this afternoon with Richmond Symphony, and VCU harpist Channyn McNew harps this evening for the Richmond Symphony Youth Orchestra Fall Concert! Toi toi toi!
