Eastern Kentucky University was founded in 1906 with a faculty of seven. In 1909, when the first commencement was held, 11 people received degrees. Over the last century, we've grown to a full-fledged comprehensive university offering 145 degree programs and serving more than 15,000 students a year.

From Athens, Greece to Richmond, Mike Karpathakis built a life founded on education. He earned his MBA from in ‘98, while working full-time as an electrical engineer. After a seven-year battle with Alzheimer’s, Mike’s legacy now lives on in part through the Mike Karpathakis Endowed MBA Scholarship Fund. This fund honors Mike’s passion for learning and helping others succeed.

When Whitney Brown’s mother was diagnosed with brain cancer, she stepped into the role of full-time caregiver while still in high school. That experience changed everything, inspiring her to pursue nursing and dedicate her life to caring for others.

At , Whitney found more than a degree. Through hands-on clinical experiences, study abroad opportunities and unwavering faculty support, she discovered how to turn resilience into purpose. Now, graduated and working in the emergency department at UK Healthcare, Whitney is making a difference every day. You can read more about her story below!
