“It is with profound sadness that I share that our longtime and much-admired Department of Radiology Administrator, Sherry Elliott, passed away peacefully on May 27th at a Florida hospital surrounded by her family. As many of you know, Sherry not only served our Department and Health System but also represented Radiology and Radiology Administrators at the national level despite the many challenges posed by her decades-long fight against cancer. I can state firsthand that she was completely committed to each and every project that she undertook and that she worked through the fatigue and illness imposed by her treatments over the course of many years.

At her retirement celebration in January of this year, she was honored (and surprised by) the creation of a fund supporting the Sherry Elliott Administrator of the Year Award which will be given to Department Administrators who demonstrate the work ethic, compassion, attitude, and tenacity that defined Sherry’s career.” -Dr. Ann Fulcher, Chair of Radiology, VCU Health

Drs. Yonella Demars and Elizabeth Edmondson (VCU School of Education) and their PATHS project team recently received the Programs that Work award from the Virginia Mathematics & Science Coalition. Through work on their NIH SEPA project titled Pathways for Authentic Teaching of Health Sciences, they were recognized for creating an effective student and teacher program that showed evidence of a positive impact on student and teacher learning.

Demars and her team will be working with a new set of K-12 teachers at their summer session scheduled to take place in the College of Health Professions July 7-9.
