We kicked off this special day of commencement festivities with a meaningful baccalaureate ceremony this morning, celebrating the shared journey of our students and faculty. 😍✨

This year’s faculty speaker, Charlie Peck, associate dean of natural sciences and professor of computer science and engineering, delivered a powerful message themed “Becoming Comfortable with Change.” Charlie’s advice for the graduating class was strengthened by crowdsourcing ideas from as many as 20 of his former students:

“Learn how to be empathetic. Develop your self awareness. Use it to help you learn how to effectively work with others. Fight all the -isms. Many communities and individuals have no choice but to learn how to overcome repeated setbacks, affronts, injustices, and insults."

From different corners of the world, Christine John ’26 and Ashley Jennings ’26 found lifelong friendship at Earlham — while pursuing distinct academic paths in peace studies, business, and biochemistry. 🌎 🎒

The two of them found each other through the roommate-matching application and remained roommates for all four years of their Earlham education.

“We’ve been through the ups and downs of college life together. It’s crazy because when you meet a stranger as a potential roommate, you hope to find a good roommate, but very rarely does that turn into finding a best friend.”

Earlham’s tradition of producing globally minded scholars continues with two more Fulbright recipients for 2026-27.

Dera Driscoll ’26 has been selected to teach in Taiwan through the Fulbright U.S. Student Program, and Reba McGloughlin ’26 will pursue graduate study in heritage management and conservation in Ireland.

Together, they become the 43rd and 44th Earlhamites to receive Fulbright recognition since 1991.

It’s almost time to celebrate Big Birding Day, the 40-plus year tradition where the Earlham community counts bird species and raises funds for the College. Join us from May 8-10 as we count all the species! 🦜

You can join in on the fun in a few ways:

- Count species and pledge to donate in support of Earlham’s ornithology program

- Follow along with the road-tripping birders to the East Coast

- Snag some Earlham Birders apparel

Thanks to a group of generous alumni, donors who give during Birding Big Day for the first time will unlock an additional $100 match from May 8 to May 15.
