Big Idea Award Winner
Alex Dixon

Alex is an EKU Guru in the Student Success Center where he tutors and mentors EKU students both professionally and personally. Alex’s big idea in this position was to create a computer software program to assist with scheduling student employees in the office. The Student Success Center hires lots of students and scheduling can undoubtedly be a complicated and timely task because work location, coverage for particular subjects, and scheduling an experienced Guru on each shift all have to be taken into account. However, Alex’s robust tutor scheduler program has saved ample amounts of time and has the potential to be used across campus. While building it, Alex frequently gained feedback from his supervisor and IT to ensure the program was the best it could possibly be and serving its purpose. He was able to get this program built during the fall semester and in time for use in scheduling student employees this spring semester. Alex is also a Machine Learning and Deep Learning (MLDL) Lab member. Congratulations to Alex for winning the 2019-2020 Big Idea student award!

Student Employee of the Year Award Winner
Kristen McKinsey Wilson

Kinsey is an EKU Guru in the Student Success Center where she coaches EKU students professionally and personally. She has tutored hundreds of students within her 3 years working this position. Not only does she have the highest number of regulars, but Kinsey goes above and beyond to make these students feel at home and comfortable with asking for help. Furthermore, Kinsey trains new Gurus and developed a system for tracking trainings and mentoring hours that will be helpful to the Student Success Center for years to come. Finally, Kinsey champions the mission of this program in and outside the workplace. She ensures that new EKU students are acquainted with the Student Success Center and all of its benefits. Congratulations to Kinsey for winning the 2019-2020 Student Employee of the Year award!
