On May 16, 2025, the University of Richmond Army ROTC program held its Spring Semester Commissioning Ceremony. Seventeen Spider Battalion Cadets took the oath of office and pinned on the rank of Second Lieutenant. These newly commissioned officers will serve in the Active Duty Force, the Army Reserve, and the Army National Guard. The 2025 commissioning class included graduates of the University of Richmond, Virginia Commonwealth University, Longwood University, and Virginia Union University.

The Commanding General of the United States Army Combined Arms Support Command/Sustainment Center of Excellence and Fort Gregg-Adams, Major General Michelle Donahue, served as the distinguished guest speaker. MG Donahue provided remarks on the leadership lessons she had learned and congratulated the commissioning class on all their achievements.

The Commissioning Class of 2025 traveled to Gettysburg for a two-day Staff Ride, closing their semester long Battle Analysis projects. Prior to visiting the battlefield, Cadets studied the event in detail in order to discuss and analyze decisions and outcomes of the battle. The purpose of a Staff Ride is to educate leaders and promote critical thinking, allowing participants to learn from past military actions and apply those lessons to current and future operations. Great Job Spiders ! All that is left is to walk across that stage and become the future leaders of the US ARMY!
