The next generation of SigEp just arrived. Chapters across the country wrapped up fall recruitment, and the classes are big: 81 new brothers at Mississippi State, 59 at Alabama, 51 at Oklahoma, and strong numbers from Purdue to Washington. Fifty years after graduation, the brothers of Ohio Kappa (Bowling Green State) still get the band back together. Twice a year, 40 to 50 SigEps who graduated between 1972 and 1977 meet for a weekend of biking, golf, pickleball and fellowship. This year's stop: Columbus.

Did you know these SigEp brothers made your favorite movies and shows?

Glen Powell joined at Texas-Austin before he flew in Top Gun: Maverick. David Harbour joined at Dartmouth before he played Hopper in Stranger Things. John Goodman joined at Missouri State as a Renaissance brother before he voiced Sully in Monsters Inc. Andy Fickman joined at Texas Tech before he directed Paul Blart 2, and Theodor Geisel joined at Dartmouth before he became Dr. Seuss.

Five chapters, five very different careers, one thing in common. Every one of them made the life changing decision to join SigEp.

Brother Orel Hershiser has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

The 1988 Cy Young winner, NLCS MVP and World Series MVP received the 2,853rd star on Aug. 13 in Los Angeles.

The star sits at 6755 Hollywood Boulevard. The 55 represents his jersey number. The 67 is for his 67 scoreless innings during the 1988 season.

He's an Ohio Kappa brother out of Bowling Green State. SigEp presented him the Citation in 1993, an honor whose recipients also include Theodor Geisel (Dr. Seuss), Carroll O'Connor and John Goodman.

In case you missed it: Episode 2 of Built to Win with Brother Jeff Henley is out now.

Jeff Henley, UC-Santa Barbara ’66, was raised by a single mom and paid his own way through UC Santa Barbara on veterans benefits. He'd go on to spend 35 years at Oracle, helping build it into one of the most influential technology companies in the world.

His explanation for how it happened is one every SigEp brother should hear: "I wasn't necessarily the smartest guy, but I was usually the most driven guy."

He also said something we won't forget. If he could go back in time, he'd do college all over again, and he'd be a SigEp again.

Bret Bolin, Alabama '22, was chapter president when he tried out for Alabama football. He made the team as a wide receiver, then stepped down from the presidency because he wasn't going to do either job halfway.

His brothers backed him completely. His roommate Jack Callahan, Alabama '22, took over as president, got reelected the next year, and still serves the chapter through the AVC today.

Bret never left Tuscaloosa. He's now a football analyst and assistant wide receiver coach for the Crimson Tide.

Brother Joel Saslaw, Sacramento State '10, has entered the Chapter Eternal.

Joel was serving as a district governor at the time of his passing. He invested himself in undergraduate brothers, in chapters that needed him and in a Fraternity he loved without reservation. He led through encouragement and genuine care, not authority.

Those who knew him describe the same man every time. Generous. Present. Unmistakably himself.

We are better because he walked among us.
