How about some Fantastic 🎶 Friday 🎶 News 🗞️

An Honors College student has been named the recipient of the 20260-2028 Obama-Chesky Voyager Scholarship for Public Service!

Congrats, Christian Washington on this amazing achievement! Christian is the founder of Cookies & Crust, an e-commerce food brand that hosts workshops on entrepreneurship and financial literacy for students in the Richmond area.

The Voyager Scholarship program said its award will bolster his support for “under-resourced communities by helping young people understand that entrepreneurship, ownership and financial literacy are attainable pathways to wealth.”

Setting sail to Denmark! 🇩🇰

Professor Tyndall recently spent a week in Copenhagen, Denmark preparing her course materials for the HYGEE & HAPPINESS study abroad trip!

The study abroad trip, which will take place ofer spring break 2027, allows students the opportunity to spend a week in Copenhagen exploring wellbeing, community, culture, arts and more!

Dr. Tyndall has been announced as a recipient of the 2026 Pedagogical Excellence and Innovation Award from Virginia Commonwealth University !

Tyndall was recognized in large part for her curricular work around wellbeing. Over the last eight years in Honors, Tyndall has created a robust wellbeing program in the Honors College through a combination of curriculum, extracurricular programming and resources that emphasize well-being and mindfulness.

She has helped advance the scholarship of teaching and learning on wellbeing at the local and national levels, while also developing her own wellbeing model that she uses throughout all of her work in Honors and at VCU.

Let’s give a big round of 👏 for Dr. Tyndall and all the work she puts into making Honros such a great and caring place!

Aarushi Rao had a busy summer. It was spent in large part on developing a new research tool at VCU to help them analyze experimental data more efficiently.

That’s pretty impressive and exactly the type of experience that students in our Honors Summer Undergraduate Research Program gain!

🥼 🧫 Melody Ngo spent her summer in a research lab through the Honors Summer Undergraduate Research Program! 🧪🔬

During the eight weeks Melody worked in the lab, she truly got a feel for what it is like to work day in and day out in a
lab setting.

🗣️”HSURP really helped me see what a university research lab is like. You learn a lot about methodologies in research lecture classes on campus, but it’s a completely different experience to be able to do them with your own hands and understand how it works and why it works. It’s really enlightening.”
