Swarthmore College Queer and Trans Conference

Swarthmore College Queer and Trans Conference We seek to center intersectional identities that are often at the margins of the mainstream gay rights movement. SAVE THE DATE!

QTC is an annual student-run, weekend-long conference that is free and open to the public that explores multi-faceted issues of queer and trans thinking, playing, working, organizing, and living. Swarthmore's annual Queer and Trans Conference (QTC) is a student-run, weekend-long, free and public conference that explores issues of queer and trans thinking, playing, working, organizing, and living.

The QTC Planning Committee (comprised of Swarthmore students of all sexualities and genders!) also coordinates the QTC Fall Series, a handful of lectures, workshops, screenings, and performances on queer and trans topics of interest and relevance throughout the Fall semester. QTC continues the long tradition of annual Sager Symposia, hosted by the Sager Fund of Swarthmore College from 1988-2008. Founded by alumnus Richard Sager '73, a leader in San Diego's gay community, the Sager Symposia aimed to combat homophobia and related discrimination, promoting events that focus on concerns of the lesbian, bisexual and gay communities. The fund was administered by a committee comprised of members of student body, alumni, staff, faculty, and administration. This year's QTC focuses on the dynamics and many meanings of social class and work. In the past few years, conferences and symposia have explored sexual politics in the bedroom, boardroom, and classroom; queer media; coalition building across queer differences; queer people of color; the intersections of race, religion, and gender; queer and trans activism; debates around same-sex marriage; queer families; and transgender movements. This year's conference will take place on Thursday March 28 - Sunday March 31.
