Welcome to 2025 Georgia Archives Month! Every year in October, the Society of Georgia Archivists celebrate the value of Georgia’s historical records, publicize the many ways historical records enrich our lives, and recognize those who maintain our communities’ historical records.

For the 2025 Georgia Archives Month, our focus turns to the outdoors and its connection to our lives. Where we live becomes a character in our narratives and impacts the story of who we are. Even within a short period of time, most Georgia residents have seen alterations to their towns, cities, and surrounding areas.

While some attention is paid to preserving the habitats through ecological means, it is also important to preserve the memory of these spaces through collections of oral histories, photographs, maps, and other documentation. We encourage the community to share their memories and other documentation of the area with local repositories to more fully document the stories of the place for the future. Leave Your Trace in the Right Place: Documenting Georgia's Environment Through Archives
