This summer, we celebrate the incredible journey and impact of Magara Maeda, our Lecturer of Japanese and Faculty Advisor for the Japanese Anime and Film Club.

For Magara - learning Japanese isn’t just about learning the language. It is about connection and sharing one's culture, as she was known for in her classroom.

From hosting taiko drumming clinics, to celebrating the coming of spring with the traditional bean-throwing festival, called Setsubun. 🌸

She taught students the importance of the matcha tea ceremony and rice in Japan, taking it beyond the classroom by collaborating with Japanese nonprofit organization Onigiri Action. 🍙

As she steps into retirement, her passion for making Japanese language education accessible to all will shine not only for University of Wisconsin system students, but for the entire country at the Japan Foundation LA.🇯🇵

🌟 A heartfelt farewell and thank you to Carlos Rojas, who has brought so much joy and knowledge to the community since 2022! His interactive teaching style and thoughtful gestures (like getting his students their favorite snacks on their birthdays!) made learning Español all the more memorable. We’ll miss your kindness, modesty, and dedication to your students - and we can’t wait to see the amazing things you’ll do at UW-Eau Claire!
