As of recently, students may have come across some flyers encouraging students to join a student-led movement petitioning to help freeze tuition. This initiative was started by the L.I.T. (Locked in Tuition) Team, originating in English 335: Writing as Social Action.

Professor Christine Wilson, instructor of ENGL 335, emphasized that all mini-campaigns were entirely student driven and ultimately chose their own campus policy, practice or initiative.

The L.I.T. team, that includes Elizabeth Hurduc, Katarzyna Zawislak, Lorena Murguia, Sabrina Glosson, and Lizbeth Lopez decided to go a route that has been an ongoing concern for many students at Dominican.

Dominican men’s volleyball finishes their outstanding season with a 23-6 overall season, and a 10-2 in conference record. Their impressive season comes to a close in the sweet sixteen of the national tournament losing to #3 in the nation Carthage.

Prior to the national tournament the Stars decimated the Northern Athletic Collegiate Conference (NACC) tournament losing only one set through the way to #12 Aurora.

The Stars were highlighted by an impressive season by junior middle Thomas Hirsch who became among the conference best players leading the group in blocks and hitting percentage. Hirsch also walked away with numerous NACC Players of the Week and All-Region Honors.

Gambling habits among college students have left the periphery in recent years, redefining both campus and societal norms. Once considered to be a clandestine hobby, gambling has been propelled into the limelight by technological mobility.

Beyond the convenience that comes with betting from the palm of your hand, much of the recent surge in college-age gambling has roots in Murphy v. NCAA (2018). This landmark Supreme Court case placed the power to ban sports betting in the hands of state legislature. As of 2026, sports betting has developed into a major market in Illinois.

With any trend, however, there is a concern for over-indulgence. It is no secret that gambling is an addictive hobby, and college students are not immune to those effects. There is a clear potential for developing unhealthy betting habits within our technologically advanced society.

Dominican University is quite unique when it comes to the American higher education system. You can have universities such as Harvard or Princeton who depend on billion-dollar endowments, but the reality here is our school which is a small, Catholic, private, Hispanic-serving institution is much more grounded and dependent on the individual students that choose to attend Dominican University every year.

A recent interview was held pertaining to Dominican’s fiscal health with Mark Titzer, the Chief Financial Officer in the Business Office, who gave a clear perspective at the complexity of keeping our campus running. Whether it be the “sticker price” of tuition to the looming concern of federal policy, Titzer explained how the university must navigate all of this to ensure its doors remain accessible to the students who need it the most.

Cyber employee Tiana Pagan was suspended for a second time after miscommunication with dining management. She was sent home indefinitely, with no return in sight.

After being hospitalized after a small stroke, Pagan took a three-day medical leave to recover. According to Pagan, she provided the necessary documentation to management, who approved her request.

Once Pagan returned, she was called to Connie Chamber’s office, general manager of Quest Food Management Services, during her lunch break. To her surprise, Pagan was marked as a no-show, despite having documentation and was on a final warning for her previous suspension.

We are a group of students who have been studying French at DU for the last two years. Though small in number, we have come to understand something that reaches far beyond our classroom and beyond any single language: that learning a language is one of the most transformative things a person can do. Our experiences have influenced how we connect with others, enter new environments, and understand the world around us. We write this letter not only to share what this program has meant for us, but to make the case that it must continue for every student that comes after…
