The Dominican Star received 11 awards from the Illinois College Press Association conference this weekend.

The staff won 3rd place in General Excellence for both the print version of the newspaper and the website.

Individual staff members also brought home honors, including:

“DU Welcomes its Largest Freshman Class in History”

My name is Vicky Mejia and I graduated from Dominican University in 2020 with a degree in Communication Studies. I am the Digital Communications Associate with the Association of Foreign Investors in Real Estate (AFIRE), which is focused on commercial property in the United States.

My position involves managing various content platforms and social media for the organization. I also manage their podcast and identify strategies for social media reaches and engagements. Lastly, I develop written and visual content such as audio files, press releases, and images for our website and social media.

One cool thing from my job is that I get to be the headlining voice for introducing The AFIRE Podcast. The podcast features AFIRE members and real estate investment leaders talking about business insights. I also help edit and format the podcast along with creating audio and video trailers for it.
