Many Dominican University students participate in our varied study abroad programs, viewing these opportunities as integral to their undergraduate education. In Europe, Asia, Latin America and Africa, these students are perfecting their language skills and/or studying the culture, politics, art, literature and social systems of a particular country. As a participant in a study abroad program, you

will not only study, but also participate in a wide variety of cultural experiences and excursions as well as independent travel. You will return to Dominican University with a broader knowledge and understanding of the world and other peoples and also a new sense of self-reliance and independence.

A group of social work students recently came back from Guatemala. They learned about race, culture, gender, human rights, immigration, and indigenous rights by visiting and learning from different groups around Guatemala. They even visited the U.S. Embassy to advocate for some of the concerns that were important to the people they visited.

“It was a powerful experience, one that will stay with me forever. I’ve learned to be more critical of our role as people living in the U.S., and I have come to realize how we impact others across the globe through our actions or inactions.”- Natalie Sanchez (‘20)
