🐯 THE BATTLE IN THE JUNGLE 🐯

Riverside City College 20 — Golden West 17

RCC TIGERS ARE 2-0! 🔥🏈

It wasn’t pretty, but it was a hard-fought Battle in the Jungle as Riverside held off Golden West 20-17 at Wheelock Stadium.

The Tigers took a 13-7 lead into the fourth quarter. Golden West pulled within 13-10, but RCC answered with two fourth-quarter touchdowns from Christopher Cooper to take a 20-10 advantage. Golden West scored with just 1:10 remaining to make it 20-17, but the Tigers held on for the victory.

🏈 THE STORY OF THE GAME

The Tigers defense once again came up big, recording 6 sacks and holding Golden West to just 118 rushing yards. Caden Arellano led RCC with 12 tackles and a sack.

Offensively, the Tigers are still trying to find their identity. Just like last week, RCC switched quarterbacks during the game.

Christopher Cooper: 15-of-21, 173 yards passing, 33 rushing yards and 2 rushing TDs

Tyler Lewis: 9-of-24, 91 yards passing, 1 INT

Cooper came through when the Tigers needed him most, scoring both of RCC's touchdowns in the fourth quarter. Jaylen Gooden added 65 rushing yards, including a 52-yard run.

The Tigers are 2-0 and beginning to look like the RCC teams we've become accustomed to seeing under the Craft era — this time with Kevin Craft at the helm.

There is still work to do, particularly on offense and finding a consistent quarterback identity. But the fight, physicality and ability to make plays when the game is on the line are already showing.
